Despite antique designs of diamond rings in the market that copy those that were created in the regency and Victorian period, the diamond ring did not really boom until a decade before the start of the 20th century. This is perhaps because only a few can actually afford to buy diamond rings for themselves. This rare gemstone is only reserved to the affluent especially to the members of the royal class.

But because of modern technology and the boom of diamond mining in India and in several parts of the world, supplies of diamond surged upwards, making this gem affordable to the middle class. Because of this, diamonds became very popular especially to women who still see it as a sign of wealth and class.

Discoveries of new mining fields in South America and South Africa, have also increased the world supply making it more accessible to the public. With such steady supply, jewelry makers are now able to make more designs that the masses can afford.

Although diamonds are placed in virtually every kind of jewelry, from necklaces to bracelets to earrings, it is the diamond ring that captures the imagination of most people. In fact, it has become through the years the symbol of eternal love between two people and has become one of the essentials in engagements and weddings.

Diamond rings are preferred during wedding ceremonies. People get excited more when seeing a diamond engagement ring compared to rings that use other gemstones. In fact, diamonds are even the favorites even after the wedding, bought as gifts for anniversaries and other special occasions.

Diamond rings can be made in different settings, gold, platinum, silver and titanium. Unlike other gemstones, whose color may clash for instance with some shades of gold, the diamond with its pure white color will look good with any setting. Perhaps one of the most engaging properties of the diamond is the fact that it symbolizes this innate purity in its color and brilliance.

Diamonds come in all sort of shapes and cuts. This is often one of the properties that people look for in their diamond rings. Diamonds are naturally found in oval or round shapes. Jewelers however cut them in different shapes and depending on the designs. Among the varieties of cuts that people have enjoyed through the years are the pear, the heart, the marquise, the emerald and the princess cut.

Okay, so trying to choose the perfect ring for the person you love is down to one particular type now, solitaire engagement rings. Yet, despite this narrowing down of choices to a certain style, you still find it somewhat mind boggling as to which one of the different solitaire engagement rings you encounter is “the one.” There are ways to get the kind of ring that you know will make your future partner, and yourself, happy.

First Considering Your Budget

Of course, choosing the right solitaire ring from the many engagement rings you find on sale online or even near you may not really be much of a problem if your budget is set at a certain limit. You cannot really aim to buy a ring from the solitaire engagement rings you see on the sites you browse if you do not have the funds to do just that. A lot of these rings you do find on sale come at a certain premium, especially if the rocks on these rings are rather sizable or are of a superior quality.

Considering your budget before you go shopping for a ring is one of the ways you can avoid getting a headache from the many choices that are available to you. With a buying limit imposed on the kind of ring you can buy, the number of solitaire engagement rings you look at could also drastically decrease, giving you a bigger chance of finding the right ring in a shorter period of time. Once your budget is set at a certain bracket, you can actually try and choose rings within that particular bracket from a few jewelry sites.

Choosing the Diamond Cut and Setting

Once you have established the budget for your engagement ring, you can next narrow down the choices to either the kind of cut you want for the ring or the kind of setting you want the ring to have. There are a lot of solitaire engagement rings that come in the more popular cuts of diamonds, like the emerald cut or the more common round, brilliant cut. There are also solitaire diamond rings that have stones cut in some of the more unique cuts for diamonds like the present favorite, the princess cut or the pear shaped diamonds. Some solitaire engagement rings have diamonds that are cut in the heart shape or in the marquis style.

After choosing the kind of stone cut, you will then need to narrow down your choices to the kind of setting the diamond should be in. Solitaire diamond rings are often best seen set in either gold or platinum since these two precious metals are the most popular metals to pair with a precious diamond. There are times that the setting is made of a combination of both precious metals or different shades of gold.

Depending on the jeweler who sells these solitaire diamond rings or on the craftsman who will make the ring you want, you can mix and match the metal with the stone.

There are actually a lot of sites that let you build your solitaire engagement rings from scratch and they often let you start with their online diamond ring creator that features many different stones in different sizes, different ring settings. Each of these components for the ring already has prices on them, making it easier for you to assemble the perfect diamond solitaire ring for your loved one in the budget you can afford.

A diamond ring is an investment, and like any type of investment, you need to know what you are looking for so that you do not get taken to the cleaners in the process. Like anything else, diamonds come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, as well as a wide variety of prices. For the most part, you get what you pay for, but you should do your research so that you fully understand what you are looking at when you are making a purchase decision.

From a historical standpoint, the concept of an engagement started off as a purely religious ceremony during the thirteenth century where it was pronounced that marriages were to be publicized in churches by the priests so that well-founded hindrances, if any, could be made known. The diamond engagement ring has emerged as the universal symbol of love and commitment between two people.

Men that used diamond engagement rings to ask for a woman’s hand in marriage were looked upon with respect and envy. Diamond rings are affiliated with diamond solitaire engagement rings. Engagement rings can have beautiful designs, and at the same time they are just as attractive in nature when compared to diamond rings. Typically, the engagement ring has diamonds and the wedding band does not, but that is not a hard set rule, as many women have diamonds in both the engagement ring as well as the wedding ring.

The size and quality of a diamond is measured by one criterion known as a carat. A carat is exactly 200 milligrams, but a diamond ring or piece of diamond jewelry with a full carat diamond of quality is going to be expensive. There are the Four Cs involved with defining the quality (and ultimately the price) of a particular diamond, besides carat, are clarity, color, and cut. The carat of your diamond refers to its weight – simply put, the larger the diamond, the more valuable it becomes. Choose a carat value that appeals most to you. While a large diamond may be more valuable than a smaller one, the most important factor is how valuable it is to you.

One of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry you can own, diamond earrings are also very versatile. To get an idea of the different styles and prices that are available in diamond stud earrings it is more convenient to view them online before shopping around at local jewelry stores. One of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry you can own is a pair of diamond stud earrings.

A diamond stud earring is made up of just one perfectly cut diamond, set in fine gold or silver. Only diamonds can cut other diamonds. The diamond may have the perfect clarity and color, but its beauty can still be negatively affected if the cut is not properly made.

The informed consumer has done their research and know what they are looking for, as well as having a good ballpark idea of what a particular diamond will price at. Don’t be afraid to ask the jewelry to borrow his “loop” which is the small magnifying glass that quality jewelers will invariably have ready, where you can get a close-up view of a diamond piece of jewelry to get a clearer picture of the quality of the diamond.

Actually I am not getting married but my best friend is. We were talking about different kinds of rings and he mentioned the Princess Cut Diamond Engagement Rings. They seem pretty pricey.

What kind of princess ring is a good deal but less than 2000 bucks?
And just a side question, what is the big deal about princess cut rings vs other kinds of rings?

My husband spent about 3 month’s salary on my engagement ring. I know that a lot of guys spend less…but I am glad that he went the extra mile.

Princess cut is just the shape of the diamond…it is a square. It is no more or no less expensive compared to the same exact diamond in another shape. Round diamonds actually sparkle more than princess.

The amount that a diamond costs is based around "the 4 c’s"…here is a website to give you that info…

Because of the extreme demands for diamond rings, there are a lot of designs to choose from. In fact, when you go inside the jewelry store, about 80 percent of the rings that they are selling have diamonds in them.

With literally hundreds, thousands and perhaps even millions of designs on your plate, how do you find then a unique diamond ring that you can call your own?

Basically, there are no designs that are exactly alike. Unless a customer asked to copy one design, a design will remain unique. Differences however lie on the details and not on the general design or the overall look. In fact, people will not be able to tell the difference between some designs unless they look at them closely. In order to really own something that is really unique, you really have to make an effort to look. Here are some ways that will allow you to wear a diamond ring like no other.

1. Create your own.

Why not try to design your own ring? Most stores accept made to order so why not try to submit a sketch of that diamond ring that you have been wanting to own? Who knows, it might just be workable.

When you ask for the ring to be made to order, make sure that you are aware of the price. The sales personnel will surely ask you to choose from their loose diamonds so be aware of the budget that you have set. Also, ask first if there is an additional charge for made-to-order pieces. Although most stores do it for free, it is still good to ask just to make sure that there are no hidden charges.

2. Try it with other stones

Solitaire diamond rings may seem really nice but unfortunately most people already own a diamond solitaire ring and what is more, there is only a few ways to set the diamonds on the gold. Chances are, new designs are not that many. If you really want designs that are unique, try diamond rings that have other stones with it like emeralds, rubies or sapphires. Try to pair it with the color of your eyes and see if it fits you.

3. Be on the look out for new designs or unique pieces

Not everything that is sold in the stores are carbon copies of each other. In fact, there are pieces that are actually unique. Try to be on the look out for these kinds of pieces. If you do not have the patience, ask the store personnel.
